Celebrate our heritage with us, visit farms & other sites all over Thurman. |
|
Extended Description:
|
Thurman people who live off the land have found a variety of
ways to benefit from nature's bounty. Whether it be grooming a
sugarbush and tapping maple trees, coaxing fruits and vegetables
from the rocky soil, selectively cutting trees and sawing them
into lumber, raising farm animals or transforming tree branches
into fine furniture, they combine creativity and hard work in this
romance with nature called "farming."
Come join us as we celebrate our heritage. Visit farms and other
sites all over Thurman. Fun will begin at 9 a.m. with a pancake
breakfast at Valley Road Maple Farm, and other activities will be
featured throughout the two days at announced times. The list
of this year's activities include a quilt show with heirloom quilts and new,
an equine logging demonstration (10:00 on Sat. only) displays of old
tractors and engines, a craft show, a gospel concert, an authors fair and book signing,
a business/home show, chicken barbecue, an artist studio,
craft demonstrations and a chance to make a paper bead,
walks trough a Tree Farm, learning how Christmas trees are groomed,
farm animals (meet the neighborhood peacock if he's around), an invitation to worship
in our country churches, a walk through a sugar bush seeing how sap is gathered,
a saw mill demonstration, pony rides for the cost of 2 carrots, a woods walk learning
about sustainable forestry, horse training demonstrations,
a geocaching adventure, appetizers and tasting at Nettle Meadow,
an old-fashioned barn dance, train rides
and...well, check the up dates on line, it is vital to plan your day
as some actives are limited to times and day.
